In the last two weeks, I must’ve spoken to over 60 students on Zoom calls where I offered a free 15 minutes counselling session, and one of the most commonly asked questions was this.
Surely others have this question in mind as well so let’s discuss it!
But before we jump right into the complexities of this, let’s understand WHY some people believe it’s impossible to get sponsored jobs.
Any job posted online attracts hundreds or thousands of CVs. You might have the perfect qualifications and experience to get that dream job but there will always be others who don’t need any visas!
Ask yourself a question..
If you were an employer, who would you choose? A local or international student? Why would you take the hassle of all the extra paperwork, deal with UKVI hassles and pay the fee just to TRY out an international student who they don’t even know will perform or not.
This was the BIGGEST challenge companies faced in the past decade and one of the main reasons international students weren’t able to switch to company-sponsored visas, not until now.
Graduate Immigration Route has finally opened up again after 9 years and I can not emphasise enough how amazing of an opportunity it is for you all!
Trust me, the newly launched post-study work visa will help you in more ways than you can imagine!
Firstly, the obvious financial benefit.
With this visa, you will be able to work full-time for two years. This means that the fee you paid for the University can easily be recovered. You can find employment, start your own business, get involved in freelancing, sell on eBay/Amazon or do whatever you want.
The second advantage is that this visa will help you get your foot in a company that may not have thought about hiring international students before.
Why?
Because they now don’t have to go through the hassle of visas and added expenses immediately after you graduate. This way employers can try you out for a few months or years and then sponsor you once you’ve proven your worth to the company.
No company would ever want to lose out on a qualified and trained employee! So all your focus during these two years of PSW visa must be to PROVE YOURSELF and let your naseeb and hard work do the rest.
P.S: There are over 32,000 such sponsored companies in the UK. Surely you can get something.
Good Luck!!
